About

Protecting people and snakes, together.

Save Snakes Lanka is a non-profit project that helps people in Sri Lanka stay safe around snakes and find trained rescuers, while protecting the snakes themselves.

What we do

  • Publish clear, reviewed information about Sri Lankan snakes in English, Sinhala and Tamil.

  • Connect people with rescuers who can move snakes safely away from homes and workplaces.

  • Share simple, evidence-based first aid and prevention guidance.

  • Show where snakes have been recorded, using open research data.

How rescuer verification works

Register as a rescuer
  1. A rescuer applies with their contact details, experience and the districts they cover.

  2. An administrator reviews the application and speaks with the rescuer.

  3. Approved rescuers appear in the directory with a verified badge. Others may be listed as pending.

  4. Listings are reviewed regularly, and anyone can report a problem.

Our principles

  • Safety first: we never tell anyone a snake is harmless based on a photo.
  • Honesty: sample content is labelled, and statistics come only from real sources.
  • Privacy: rescuers’ private details are never shown publicly.

Species and first aid content is pending review by herpetologists and clinicians.
